Do ya’ll support Nationalism and/or Eugenics, not in the Nazi fasion, but in general?

Hi Ken,

Thanks for breaking the ice and being the first to “Ask A Socialist”! So on to this socialist’s answer, which is a resounding “no”.

If you haven’t already checked out the SPUSA’s website << insert hyperlink here: http://socialistparty-usa.net/principles.html, I highly recommend it. That’s where we share our party’s principles, upcoming activities and lots of other current information about our active party. Number one on our list of principles for a socialist society is freedom and equality:

“Democratic socialism is a political and economic system with freedom and equality for all, so that people may develop to their fullest potential in harmony with others. The Socialist Party is committed to full freedom of speech, assembly, press, and religion, and to a multi-party system. We are dedicated to the abolition of male supremacy and class society, and to the elimination of all forms of oppression, including those based on race, national origin, age, sexual preferences, and disabling conditions.”

It makes it tough to argue for nationalism or eugenics (in the Nazi fashion or any other) when you’re dedicated to tearing those ideologies down. Nationalism and eugenics work well for fascist leaders to try to a build up a nation of ignorant and fearful citizens, but we see how well that worked out for Hitler. Not exactly a path anyone in their right mind should be looking to follow, and pretty much the antithesis of the Socialist Party’s goals for a greater, open society.

Comradely yours,

Michelle B.
